Let’s Set Our Wayback Machine
to the Late 1950s

That’s when Episcopalian Bishop Edwin A. Penick first envisioned a place devoted to helping seniors enrich their lives, maintain their health, and celebrate their independence.

Bishop Penick’s vision took root in Southern Pines, NC, thanks to the generosity of Mrs. James Boyd, who donated 13.5 acres of land adjacent to the Weymouth Nature Preserve. This gift gave Penick Village the good fortune to be nestled in the most historic section of Southern Pines—just a few blocks from downtown, and only ten minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Ground was broken for the first building in 1962, and our doors opened to residents on April 15, 1964.

My, how we’ve grown

Thanks to the dedication of our staff, residents, family, and friends, Penick Village now spans 38 acres and has become a premier Life Plan Community. We have over 150 Independent Living residences, and offer sought-after amenities—including a Restaurant, Pub, Café, Library, Chapel, Hutchins Hall, Movie Theater, Hair and Nail Salon, and more.

We’ve also incorporated a full range of Health Services: Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Memory Support, Rehabilitation, and Home Care. So, our residents can enjoy retirement without worrying about life’s “what-ifs.”

Just like you, our best days lie ahead

Plans are underway for another expansion that will add amenity space, enhance health care areas, and provide 44 more Independent Living residences.
